Help

How Junior works, in short answers.

Getting started, signing in, sharing, your data, and how to reach us.

Getting started

Getting in

Junior is invite-only. An account is made only from an invite, from Junior or from someone who uses it. If you don't have one, join the waitlist and we'll email you when yours is ready.

Every new account starts with Kitchen and Calendar. Your first week shows three things to try with them.

Your first week →Plans →

Junior on your phone's home screen

Junior is a web app today. There's no App Store or Google Play app yet. You can still put it on your home screen and it opens full screen, like an app.

iPhone: open yojunior.com in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Android: open it in Chrome, tap the menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.

Turning on more of Junior

Calendar and Kitchen are there from the start. Turn on Trips, People, Health, Guides, Fitness, Money, Wine and the rest when you want them, from inside Junior.

Signing in

A password or a 6-digit code

Sign in with your password, or ask for a 6-digit code by email. Junior never emails a link that signs you in, so a forwarded email can't open your account.

Forgot your password? Ask for a reset code by email, then choose a new one.

The apps

Calendar

Day, week, month and year, with who's coming, where it is, and reminders.

Calendar →

Kitchen

Recipes from a link, a photo or a PDF, nutrition per serving, menus, the week's dinners and one grocery list.

Kitchen →

Trips

A map of where you've been, every trip with its route, the places you want to go, and a shortlist for the next one. Inside a trip: legs and stops, the options you're weighing, receipts and costs, and who owes whom.

Trips →

People

Time together with the people in your life, a page for each of them, and who it's been a while since.

People →

Health

Readings, blood pressure, meds, doctor visits and what you ate and drank. You enter it; Junior isn't a doctor and its numbers aren't medical advice.

Health →

Guides

The places you love and the ones you want to try, by kind and neighborhood. Its catalog of places covers New York City today.

Guides →

Fitness

Training programs on your calendar, workouts from a library of drawn exercises, and every set logged as it really went.

Fitness →

Money

What you own and what it's worth, budgets, and a forecast, from what you enter or import. Bank linking is coming soon.

Money →

Wine

Your cellar, when to open each bottle, what goes with dinner, and every bottle you've had.

Finding your way around

Travel's five tabs

Travel has Overview, Trips, Places, Explore and Guides. Overview opens on a map of everywhere you've been, colored by year, with your next trip and what it still needs. Trips shows what's coming on photo covers, then every past trip by year. A trip's page opens with its route on a map (its legs, numbered in date order), where you stayed and where you ate.

Places is one map and list of every travel place: been, want to go or booked. Explore narrows a trip down: start a search, and move places from Considering to Shortlist to Picked. For US ski places it shows the National Weather Service's 7-day snow forecast, and for every region what NOAA's El Niño reading has tended to mean. That's a tilt, not a forecast.

The old Upcoming and Been tabs are on Trips. Wanderlist and Browse by country are on Places. Maybe and Inspiration are on Explore.

Trip and place photos

A cover shows your own photo first. Without one, a trip uses its main destination's photo, then Wikipedia's.

Tap the faint camera in a cover's corner to upload your own, try another or go back to the default. Your photos are private to you, with their location details removed, and Remove my photo deletes the file.

Plans: Overview, Ideas, Planner

Plans opens on four cards: Needs you, Coming up, People to see and Ideas. Ideas, which used to be called Things to do, holds every idea by category and the draft calendar, where an idea gets a day before it's real. The Planner looks months out. Up next is what you're watching, reading and listening to next.

A plan's page opens with its summary and Push, which puts its drafts on your calendar.

Repeating tasks

In Tasks, Repeating (it used to be called Templates) holds the to-dos that come back, grouped by category, each with its next date, when it was last made, Make it now and an on/off switch. The Recurring tab is gone.

Each morning, around 6 AM Eastern, Junior makes the next to-do a little ahead of its date: weekly ones on the day, monthly 3 days early, quarterly 7, twice-yearly and yearly 14. Daily ones never are. It never makes a backlog, and never a second copy while one is still open.

Sharing

One thing, with one person

Everything you add is yours alone until you share it. You share one item at a time (a recipe, a menu, an event, a trip) with a person you pick, and they're asked first.

Privacy & trust →

Sharing a calendar or a grocery list with one person

Share your calendar with one person after they say yes: they see the time, title, place and who's going, read-only. Meals, drinks, private events, notes and health details never cross.

Share a grocery list and it's one list you both add to. Your own list stays private beside it. Either of you can stop sharing at any time.

Friends who don't use Junior

Make a link for a recipe, a menu or a trip, and anyone with the link can read it. Turn the link off whenever you like.

On a trip you can name people who aren't on Junior, so the costs split right. They can't open the trip itself.

Reminders and notifications

Reminders

Set Remind me on any event, in Junior, by email, or both. Set your defaults once in Settings, under Notifications.

On a very busy day Junior can reach its email limit; the reminder still shows in Junior and says it wasn't emailed.

Your data

Download everything

Export it all from Settings, under Your data: one ZIP with a spreadsheet for every kind of thing you keep, all of it in one file, and your photos and documents. We email you when it's ready and delete the file after 7 days.

How it works →

Delete your account

Settings, under Your data. Type DELETE, then a code we email you. Your account is locked at once and erased for good after 30 days. Until then, sign in and press Keep my account to undo it.

Who can see what

You see your own things and what's shared with you. The database itself checks every read and write. Other people on Junior can see your display name, so they can share with you.

Connecting and importing

Google Calendar

Two-way Google Calendar sync is built and works today. Google reviews every app that edits calendars, and once Junior passes, anyone can connect.

Once you're connected, tap a Google invite on your calendar and it opens in a drawer inside Junior: when and where, the organizer, your answer, who's invited, the meeting link and the description. To change it or answer it, use Open in Google Calendar.

Bringing things in

Recipes: paste a link, photograph a cookbook page or upload a PDF. Garmin: upload your .fit files, or a .zip of them, in Junior's chat. Receipts: photograph one on a trip and it becomes a charge you can split. Scales: import a VeSync export (.csv) into Health.

Logging

Catch up on what didn't get logged

Catch up is one list of what you planned or usually log but didn't: meals, drinks, meds, workouts, time with people, shows and tasks from the last week. Answer each one with a tap, like Ate it, Took it or Skipped.

Home shows a small Catch up line when there's something on it. To get a daily nudge, turn it on in Settings, under Notifications.

Log a run-in

Ran into someone? In People, use Add, then Ran into someone, or press Ran into them on their page. Add where if you like. It counts as time together and stays off your calendar.

See each workout's miles and minutes

A planned workout shows its distance or time next to its name, like 7 mi or 60 min, on the calendar, in Plans and in Fitness. Once it's done and recorded, it shows what you did, like 7.2 mi ✓.

Days and weeks add up too: the week view puts each day's total under its date, and Fitness totals the week by sport. The numbers come from your own plan, so a shared calendar never shows someone else's.

Help decide what we build

Voting on what Junior builds

Signed in, open your account menu and choose Request a feature. That opens Help decide. Each question has a few options. Pick one; it's one vote per person, and you can change it while the question is open.

Once a question has 10 votes and you've voted, you see how the votes split. Nobody sees who voted for what, including us.

Request a feature

At the bottom of Help decide, under Request a feature, tell us what Junior should do. It reaches us from your account, and we read every one.
