The restaurant you walked past

Tuesday you walk past a place that looks great. Friday you're eating there with Sam. Here's everything in between, and who did it.

  1. 01 · Tuesday, on the sidewalk

    Two words on a post-it

You walk past a place on Court Street. Full room, good smell, no time. You open Junior and jot a post-it: Via Cesare.

Junior finds a restaurant by that name in its New York places and puts a small Want to go? beside it.

Junior's post-its: Via Cesare with a Want to go? suggestion beside it, then olive oil and lemons, and a call to the landlord about the radiator.
  2. 02 · Tuesday night

    One tap, and it's yours

Tap Want to go?. Junior shows the card it found among 67,000 New York places: what it is, the street and neighborhood, the full address and the website. Nothing is saved until you say Looks right.

Want to go is already ticked. Press Save and Via Cesare is in your places, on your Want to go list, and the post-it is marked done.

The card Junior found: Via Cesare, a restaurant at 214 Court Street in Cobble Hill, with its full address, website and map pin, and the buttons Looks right and Back.Where Via Cesare goes: Want to go is ticked, with a plan's shortlist and Favorites as the other choices, and a Save button.
  3. 03 · Thursday

    On Friday's shortlist

Friday dinner with Sam is a plan, still a draft. Press + Add a place on it and pick Via Cesare.

It joins the shortlist marked Added by you, next to the options Junior drafted with a web search.

The Friday dinner plan, a draft with Sam: Via Cesare on the shortlist marked Added by you, beside two restaurants Junior drafted with a note on each.
  4. 04 · Friday

    Dinner, on the calendar

Push the plan to your calendar. On the dinner, add Via Cesare as the place and Sam as who's coming.

Set Remind me to 2 hours before. The reminder comes in Junior and by email.

  5. 05 · After

Rate it the way you'd tell a friend

Rate Via Cesare by food, service, atmosphere and value, in half stars. Skip any you don't have a view on. The overall is their average, never a number you type.

Once five other people have rated a place, a Junior score shows beside yours. Your own rating isn't counted in it.

Rating Via Cesare: food 4, service 4, atmosphere 3.5 and value 4 stars, noise skipped, and the overall worked out from them.

Right where you'll look for it

Via Cesare stays in your places. If you keep a guide for Cobble Hill or Brooklyn, it's there under Restaurants with the rest.

And Sam's page shows Friday dinner, because Sam was on it.

A guide's Restaurants page with Via Cesare among the places kept there, each with its kind, neighborhood and ratings.Sam's page in People: last seen at Via Cesare, a journal of the time you've spent together, and what to remember about Sam.

What you didn't have to do

  • Look up the address, or the website.
  • Paste a link into a notes app you'll never open again.
  • Text yourself to book something on Friday.
  • Write down who you went with, or when.
